About Us

Captain Cook Canoes is a local, family-run business located in the rural Norfolk village of Wortwell. We are focused on providing great customer service and experiences that our guests will remember and treasure.

We have a standard hire route which we send our customers along; this is a gentle 45-60 minute paddle upstream towards the village of Mendham. When customers arrive at the public portage point in Mendham they can turn around and follow the same route back downstream towards Wortwell (similar timeframe).

Our hub provides an abundance of facilities for customers. We have provision of a hot shower if required (bring towels with you), and a toilet. Personal goods that are not required on your trip can be stored here at your own risk.

Whilst on the river you will be likely to encounter a range of beautiful wildlife. The River Waveney is host to abundant wildlife including heron, kingfishers, swans, otters, dragonflies, pike, bream, roach, crayfish - the list goes on. This stretch of the River Waveney is very secluded and picturesque, there are no motorised craft on this part of the river.

We cater for a variety of customers, all of different ages and abilities. Our primary aim is to ensure that everybody has a great time and leaves with a smile on their face and memories to cherish. You will be well advised on the river, craft, weather and the route which you will be following. We make sure that all participants are comfortable and confident before allowing them to depart.

Groups are set off in staggered times so that everybody has the chance to have a private and individual experience. Our hire times are generally 9:00 am, 12:00 pm, 3:00 pm and 6:00 pm - these can be booked online here. We are sometimes able to fit groups in between these times, so if there are no booking slots available for your desired day, don't hesitate to contact us by phone or email and we will try and facilitate a booking for you.

We look forward to welcoming you soon!
